You just need a hobby — and I'd bet you've got at least one. Over the past few months I've been collecting examples of AI showing up in the most unexpected corners of people's lives: restoring a decades-old family photo, sketching out three garden layouts before buying a single plant, pulling just the drum track out of a song to learn a part. None of it replaces the hobby. All of it removes the part that used to eat your whole afternoon. That's the one thing AI is genuinely, reliably good at: taking something that used to take real time — or a professional — and doing it in minutes. That blurry, damaged family photo? Restored and colorized before your coffee gets cold. Redesigning the front garden? See three different layouts before you touch a shovel, instead of guessing from a sketch. This week I want to show you exactly what that looks like — live, not just described. Or play along, but one instrument keeps burying the part you're trying to learn? I try Moises — a free app that splits any song into its parts (vocals, drums, bass, guitar, keys) in about a minute. I demo it on one of Moises's own sample tracks, then on an original song of mine, to see if it holds up on real material. Spoiler: mostly, yes — with one honest exception. AI just clears out the slow part and hands you the result faster. This Week's Tip — Try This Exact Prompt Pick one part of your hobby that always eats the most time — the setup, the prep work, the first draft — and try this: “I [do/enjoy X hobby]. What's the fastest way to get past [the slow, tedious part] on [a project you're working on]? Explain it in plain language.” That's it. You're not asking AI to do the hobby for you — you're asking it to clear out the slow part so you get to the good part faster.
