Here's something most people don't know: you can fix that. Once. Every major AI tool — ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini — lets you enter a short description of yourself that it remembers every single time. It's usually called "Custom Instructions" or "Personalization." Takes two minutes to set up. Something as simple as this goes a long way: "I'm 67, not a tech person, and I like clear explanations without jargon. I'm retired and mostly use AI for personal projects and learning new things." See the difference one prompt makes: "Explain how to use AI for meal planning." ❌  WITHOUT personalization: "AI-powered meal planning leverages machine learning algorithms to optimize nutritional intake based on user-defined parameters. Platforms like Mealime, Whisk, and Eat This Much integrate with dietary databases to generate macro-balanced meal plans. You can also use LLMs to automate grocery list generation by inputting caloric targets and dietary restrictions..." ✅  WITH personalization: "Great question! The simplest way to start is just to ask me directly. Try something like: 'Give me a 5-day dinner plan for two — nothing complicated, 30 minutes or less.' I'll give you a list you can take straight to the grocery store. Want me to do that now?" Same prompt. Completely different answer. Why? The personalized version knew you're not a tech person, so it skipped the jargon. It knew you're retired and want practical help, so it cut straight to something useful. It even offered to do the work for you — because it understood who it was talking to. That's the power of telling AI about yourself. It stops guessing and starts helping.
